Music Licensing and Sync

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING BEFORE SENDING MUSIC

  • First thing, the music HAS to be good, as does the engineering of the song.
  • The splits and metadata on your songs have to be correct. Do you have a split sheet, producer agreement, or work for
hire agreement? Has your song been registered with the copyright office or any publishing rights organizations? Do you
record the master recording and composition (publishing) for that music?
  • Do your research. What type of music do you make? Which shows, films or advertising campaigns fit your style? Which
music supervisors do you want us to reach out to?
  • Are you familiar with our music library/database the “World Song Network”, the language we use to describe and
program artist’s music into our song casting system is a useful and necessary tool to have for metadata.
  • How are your emails? Were you personable, did you show an active interest in that supervisor’s world? Do you use mature diction and correct grammar (We use Grammarly for every email.)

SUBMISSION CONSIDERATION AND COLLABORATING WITH FORD MUSIC SERVICES

  • Artist send us their original productions they control 100% of the master and composition on.
  • We upload the music to our business-to-business “song casting” system. “The World Song Network” and program each song for
search criteria, including keywords, genre, lyrics, and similar artists.
  • We pitch your songs on forthcoming film, television shows, ad-campaigns we think are a good fit.
  • No upfront retainers or costs to the artist. We take care of the bandwidth required to program and host the songs.
  • Should we secure a placement, we would receive a predetermined percentage of all revenues generated for that song, typically a
50/50 split. We do not ask for any ownership of the songs we place.

We administer artist’s and catalog owner’s music exclusively by request only, and only if we clear a predetermined amount set by the artist/catalog owner; this is at the artist’s discretion. Our default is non-exclusive.

Based on the emerging/unsigned artist deal point structure outlined above, once we receive interest in one of the artist’s songs for film, television, or advertising campaign use we would enter into formal agreements at the above terms and conditions at fees acceptable to the artists/songwriters.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN MY WORK BE FEATURED WITH OTHER PLACEMENT AGENCIES?

Absolutely! We encourage all artists to work (non-exclusively) with as many agencies as they can.

WHAT ABOUT LAWYERS AND CONTRACTS?

With hundreds of boilerplate contracts to Ford Music Service’s name, we believe in minimizing overhead to increase profits for everyone. We’re happy to continue providing contract templates for artists, and we’re always available to answer any questions to ensure all parties have a solid understanding

HOW DO ROYALTIES WORK?

Artist(s) and songwriters are paid a predetermined percentage amount of all the licensing and royalty revenues for that song on a
semi-annual basis. Artists and songwriters have approval and standard auditing rights. Royalty information is submitted in one of
two ways, a letter of direction to the director of the project, or by a song retitle agreement to the publishing rights organization (PRO)such as BMI, ASCAP, or SESAC.

CAN I SIGN TO A LABEL IF MY WORK IS NON-EXCLUSIVELY REPRESENTED BY FORD MUSIC SERVICES?

Yes, however, once a body of work is signed to a label the license fee for that work increases dramatically and becomes out of reach for most budgets. The artist MUST contact us immediately to inform us of this change. If for ANY reason the artist fails to do so, this will result in immediate termination of our collaboration with the artist. Music Supervisors depend on accuracy! Bad information leads to expensive delays and endangers business relationships. WE CAN’T OVEREMPHASIZE THIS IRON-CLAD MODUS OPERANDI.
